Awakenings

Have written nothing for a long long time. It seems a bit difficult to start writing again.... Today, I re-watched the “Awakenings”, a 1990's movie. So touching, so nice movie. There is a line: “People nowadays don't know how to appreciate simple things...”, so true. We always forget the most simple thing that we should apprepicate; the bright blue sky, the little flower on the road, the little kids who are rushing to the school, the coffee shop girl who is making coffee for you...etc, etc. So many things that can make us happy because we are still alive and can expeirence that living world. A patient said she knew that it was not 1926 but she need it to be since in the past year during her “sleeping” in the hospital, she experienced nothing. Life without experience is not life anymore, no matter whether it's bad or good. Once, Robert DiNero asked the doctors if he can get a “holiday” from the hospital. Doctors asked him what would he do when having this holiday. He replied: “Go out for a walk, relax, have fresh air, and talk to others.” Very clear and simple wishes. Do we talk to others when we have time? It seems that we don't; we seldom talk about our true feelings, seldom talk to those around us, our family; there is lack of communications between people. Living, communicating and to experience are essential in our life which make it fruitful. umm....I have to do them all again from today......

03 Oct 2009 was the eve of Mid-Autumn Festival. I went to Tai Hang to watch the traditional Fire Dragon dance. That traditional event held every year during the three days of the Mid-Autumn (base on the lunar calendar, it's 15th day of the eight month of each year).

This is the third time, I went there to watch the fire dragon dance. Here are some photos of the event.

I have a sweet sister, Jan who always help me promoting my Etsy. It's already the third order from her colleagues and this time it's a special custom order. I was requested to design a necklace to match with my Orange Road Earring that had been listed in Etsy for months.

I tried very hard to think about the necklace and was worried that I could not find the same materials that make the two become one set. I started to read lots of books for inspiration. Sometimes, I even dreamed about making the necklace. The image finally come to my head and the whole set is ready to go to it's new home tomorrow. Hope that it's new master like it as I do.

Oh, I haven't blog for about 1 month coz too busy at work and study. I will have an examination later this morning on the Hong Kong Business and Company Law. What a subject to me.

Last thursday, I finally have my first oil painting finished. I started learning oil painting two months ago and I am still thinking whether I could paint. Nevermind, just keep on learning and practicing.

Frustrated then Excited

I was very frustrated about the problem of sign-in the blogger the past two days! I was kicked off by the blogger due to some kind of problem that I don't know and don't understand. And now, I finally can log-in again!!

My life as "Meego"

"Meego" has been started for almost six months. It means that I am no more a newbie but a kid in Etsy, lol.

I am so happy that I had decided to join Etsy. It is a wonderful place where I can find friendship, help, encouragement and satisfaction. In Etsy, I met many nice people and I had been featured in serval blog during this six months. And there are 3 things made me very exciting!

First of all, I had my first sale in April. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Diane is my first customer. She is a nice lady who always provide advise to us, who has no / low sales. Thank you very much, Diane. She hosts a thread in Etsy and is the owner of eclecticasia and she purchased my "Blue Flower in my heart Necklace".

Secondly, in early May, I was featured by SaladforBreakfast with a giveaway of my "Blue Box Necklace". I obtained much encouragement from the giveaway which let me knew that I am in the right direction. The giveaway has finished yesterday and the winner is Bunny B. Congratulations, Bunny B.

The last one is that my "Blue Ocean Necklace" is in the treasury made by barefootweaver! The treasury is "Summer Hues". This is the first time my piece is included in a Treasury. Hurrah!!

I feel that I am full of energy again and certainly will have more nice pieces in the coming month!

This is the third time I am being featured where I have sent my "My Fair Lady" for a product review. It is nice to know that this bracelet gain a good feedback from Saladforbreakfast. This feedback really an encouragement to me to "think" of more styles on jewelry making for my customers.

The parade on 18 April 2009 天后誕巡遊

18 April 2009 was the day for celebrating the birthday of "Tin Hou", the goddess of the sea. Birthday of "Tin Hou" is calcuated according to the Chinese calendar, the 23th day of the third month of the year.

That was the first time I joined to enjoy this special celebration and traditional parade. It's a wonderful experience. After lots of lion dances, there was the special ChiuChow traditional dancing. A very nice dance with lots of performers with their face full of makeup. The parade last for 3 hours and rains came in a sudden when the parade almost finished. We were so lucky that it didn't rain for most of the time. Let's have a look on some of my photos. If you want to view more, please visit my album.

A visit to Ma Wan

Yesterday, I went to Ma Wan Park which is still not yet completed, for a walk and took some photos. It is a nice place to have a rest. Go there with a book and lay down on the beach or take a seat at the road side coffee shop is great.

Just beside the park, the developer of Ma Wan Park built a private theme park named "Noah's Ark". The place is now open for group visit only. I am sure that when it opens to public, I will visit it. Let's share some of my photos taken yesterday.

Father's expensive baby - Camera

My father is the one who inspire me on photo taking. He is definitely a camera and photo fan.

When he was still a young guy, he own a traditional film camera at a cost of HK$800 plus. At the time, breakfast for one person only costed HK$0.10. So you can imagine how expensive was his first camera.

On almost every weekend in our childhood, we went to the Victoria Park in Causeway Bay to enjoy the fresh air and of course, he enjoyed his most favour hobby, photo shooting.

During my teenage, father was very busy on his business. Hence, we seldom have photos. The chances that we had our photos was during traveling. Father brought his baby with us and that were the only chances. I was very curious how it works and how the photos would be if I have the camera with me.

After my high school, I enrolled in a 3-months lesson on basic photography. That was the first time I hands on this machine, my father's expensive baby. It still worked after so many years sitting in the small box at the corner with good result.

Now, I usually go for shooting twice a month for practise and father will go out whenever he wants as he retired now. We only have shooting together for once which was the last Christmas, we went to the Ocean Park.

"Departures" 禮儀師之奏鳴曲

Tuesday is movie night because ticket is sold in discount. I went to watch "Departures" , a Japan movie that won Oscar's "Best Foreign Film" this year.

The story is about an unemployed cellist, Diago, back to his home town and found a job in a funeral organising company. In Japan, this is kind of disgusting job. Even Diago's wife didn't agree him accepting the job. However, Daigo ignored the disagreement. During the time he preformed the services, he learnt a lot and at the same time he comforted lot of crying hearts .

I cried serval times when I was watching the movie because it is a very touching one. To me, the most touching scene was about the "Stone letter". Daigo said that when he was still a kid, his father told him that "Stone letter" is kind of way to express your feeling and care to people you love by giving them a stone that you choose for the one. A smooth stone means your care is soft. A big one means the receiver is big big love of the sender.

This is really a wonderful movie.

Mama's birthday present

This month end is mama's birthday. As I said days before, I wanted to make a jewelry for her and I finish it! It's a necklace made of pearl in two strings.

When thinking about the style of the necklace, I wanted to make it simple. A simple one string pearl necklace. However, as she is a strong women, a too simple one might not fit her. Thus, I decided to add some more details. I found some interesting and shinning pendents that would definately let the necklace look more bright. Moreover, mama sometimes wear suit to the office, this two strings necklace would still be shinning since the pendants were positioned at the front and won't be covered by a shirt.

So, what do you think? And remember, don't tell her yet.

2009 HK Flower Show

Today is the second day of the 2009 Hong Kong Flower Show. Same as previous years, there are lots of florist companies joined the event. Moreover, the Government take this chance to deliver the idea of a "Green" city to the public. As Hong Kong is a city full of buildings and lack of "Green", this is a good idea to run such a show.

Mom went to a party with my Japan plastic pearl bracelet few days before.

What a pity. The bracelet was broken suddenly when she wore it to a party last night. I definately will re-do this bracelet. And I will make her another one because this month end is her birthday. In the past, I used to buy her accessories, comatics, handbag and etc. This year, I will make one with pearl by myself.

VivaLaModa - The online fashion magazine

The second issue, March 2009, of the online fashion magazine, VivaLaModa, is just released. The magazine is all about handmade items including makeup tips, decoration, jewelry trend, recipe and etc.

In the past, I wanted to participate in magazine publishing. I ever tried offering my service to a household decoration magazine but failed. This time, it's the first time I am in! I provided a recipe of making raddish cake in my hometown way. Moreover, in this issue, you will know about decoration tips, jewelry trend and other "how-to" topics.

Hike for Hospice 2009

22 February 2009 was the day for Hike for Hospice 2009 which was organised by the Society for the Promotion of Hospice Care (SPHC).

This is an annual charity fund raising event of the organization. The SPHC provides support and care services for people with life limiting diseases which may no longer be responsive to cure-oriented therapies, such as cancer and chronic obstructive airway disease. The principle of the society is "adding life to days when days cannot be added to life".

The day was not too hot, 22 degree celcius, a perfect day for hiking. The hiking started at 9:00. There were 3 routes for hikers to choose, 18km and 12 km for experience hikers and one 12km general hiking. I chose the general one and I used 3 hours 45 minutes completing the hiking. The fastest hikers used about 1 and a half hours to finish a 18km hiking. Wowww, they were so fast. During the hiking, I met them at some check points and they were not hiking, they were running. They are runner.

After the hiking, we were provided with traditional curry lunch. Yummy food. The day, I went home with a headache. Headache again? my god.

It's my first time visiting Lei YueMun. This is a good place for photo taking and having yummy seafood. It's a so so great seafood meal, we have abalone, loster, shrimp, crab, etc. Want to have a look of my photos?

Busy Days

2009 has passed one and a half month. I just reviewed this very begin of the year and seems it will be a crazy, busy year to me.

At first, the Chinese New Year of year OX was between end of January and early of February. Even though I did not need to help much on the housework, I have lots of assignment to finish before the holiday was end.

Secondly, I don't know why I feel that I am not in a good health since the year end of 2008. Maybe becasue I always have headache, really need a health checkup.

The third, the economy now is not good and I heard lots of "restructuring", lay-off, bankrupt, all bad news around. I really wish that will be all over soon. Under this Financial Tsunami, we, the citizens of the earth, need to cheer up and never give up.

Forth, it's my Etsy shop. I stopped doing jewelry making since the Chinese New Year holiday till two weeks ago because I need to refresh my mind and have something new for this year, 2009. When I make my works, I never have them sketched. All of them are only in my mind. Ideas will suddenly appear. Even I am in the office, ideas will come up. I need to learn how to organise my brain storm moment.

Finally, my lovely blog, I do want to blog everyday. It's not a easy task to me because english is not my mother language. Expressing myself in english is a bit difficult. However, I sure will keep on this blog as I love blogging!

My Cookie

I ever read a short story.

A business person, before he was diagnosis of cancer, thought that the key point to happiness was to obtain "cookies" in one's life. That "cookie" can be anything such as, a car, money, a trip, another half, etc.

The business person was inspirated by his little son one day after he was found having cancer that keeping "cookie" in one's life is too tough. Keeping that "cookie" and won't let it break or loss is a difficult task. Even the "cookie" is kept safely, not many of the people really enjoy it because they are too worry about lossing it. So why keep that "cookie"? The business person finally understand that a "life long cookie" of human should be our own LIFE.

I always say that I aim to have a happy and beautiful life. I do want to! However, sometimes, it's not easy to keep a smiling face.

"Nothing is impossible."

That're what I want to tell myself today! CHEER UP!!

Strawberry day

Yesterday, a sunny Saturday, Lily, Jade, Isabella, Belinda & I went to visit strawberry garden where we can pick strawberry by ourself. It's Lily's suggestion that we should go somewhere with lots of sunshine and near the nature. She loves to arrange outdoor activities for her kid, Jade. I definitely agreed with her as sunshine is good to our health.

In the morning, we planned to meet at 11:30 before we take a cab to the garden. As usual, Belinda and her daughter Isabella arrived late. On the cab, kids talked a lot and they were very excited because that was the first time they visit strawberry garden.

The garden is operated by a small corporation. Besides the strawberry field, they keep some small animal such as, pig, squirrel, rabbit and goat. Moreover, they arrange other activities that we can choose, for example, cycling, fishing, outdoor painting, etc. It's a good place for family gathering. I am thinking I should arrange one for my nephews and niece when they come to Hong Kong next time.

When we arrived the strawberry field, they provided each of us a basket to pick strawberry that we wanted by ourself. At first, we found not much strawberry and felt a bit disappointed. Later on, the gardener told us that we should go a bit further to the back of the field, there are lots of them. We went to the back and we were happy to find that big, red and fresh strawberry was everywhere.

After two hours, each of us had a full basket of yummy strawberry. It's really a lovely Saturday and next time, where should we go next time? Litchi field? Watermelon field? Corn field? Let's see.

4/. Lots of party in February; gatherings with classmates in high school;
go hiking with classmates.

Whenever I come home, you were always waiting for me. I could share my laugh and sorrow with you. And you willing to show me the things happened out there. You are my beloved one.

The day before, I was so terrified to find out that your brain got diseases. I am afraid that you will lost your memory. I cannot imagine life without you.

Oh my god! The only thing I can do was sent you, my computer, to the computer guy to fix you. I really hope you will be fine soon.

The Wonder woman

I read a book the other day. It let me think about the attitude of being alive.

The small book talked about a woman who married to a man who is around 11 years elder than her when she just turned to 16. Her marriage was not a happy one because she did not have a good relationship with her mother-in-law who was living with her. Moreover, as a traditional Chinese man, her husband wanted her gave birth to a baby boy but she only had 4 girls with one of them is retarted. The days she had with her husband was full of argue and hate. They started gambling and the relationship became more worst.

She blamed Lord let her experience that kind of life. She was so depressed and angry that she ever thought of suicide. However, as a mother, when she looked at her children, she gave up that crazy thought. She had to be strong even though her husband did not support her.

Her life changed after she became Christian. No more gamble, no more fight. She becomes gentle and thoughtful. Her home is a peaceful place now. Because of her changes, her husband became a Christian too.

After few years of peaceful in her life, she got breast cancer at one side of her breast and few years later, she had it found at the other side too. During her sickness, the whole family fully support her. They belives that God will lead them the way. And now, she is still alive happily and she joins the volunteer team in the hospital to comfort patients with the same disease.

Life can be tough, can be sweet and never easy. What kind of life you have depends on how is your attitude, positive? negative? full of hope? or desperate?

I would take the positive and way of full of hope!

Month to give presents

January is the month for me to send presents to my friends.

Beside the "re-make" of the necklace for my colleague, Joem. I made three more necklaces this month as presents to my friends. The one with golden brown ribbon was made for Shy and the jade one belonged to Peggy. The black shinning one will be the gift for SoSo.

Indeed, the golden brown and jade were made for Shy. I sent both of the necklaces to her and asked her to choose one of it as her belated birthday gift. As she loves ribbon very much, she chose the one with golden brown ribbon. When I shown Peggy the one that had not been choosen, she told me that she loved it and would like to have it. I was so happy that that heavy jade necklace found her owner.

I am sure that my handmade jewelry will become my first choice gift to my female friends; and definately it will be in different kinds of style and pattern!

If You are the One 非誠勿擾

tsyLast night, I watched a movie named "If You are the One". This is a movie produced by China director Feng Xiaogang (馮小剛); and the male actor is Ge You (葛優) and the female actor is Shu Qi (舒淇).

The story is simple and it's about a 40+ business man back to China after having lived in US for years because he had to take care of his widow mother. Suddenly one day, he wanted to settle down and find his mrs right. He post an advertisement in the internet for blind date. The blind dates were very funny and crazy. And there was the day, he had a blind date with a girl who had an affair with a married man. He found that she might be the one.

This is a good movie not because of the beautiful scenery but those interesting lines. The most interesting one is the new explanation about "love in first sight". The meaning of "Love in First Sight" according to this movie is that you don't need a physical meet with the one. The smell of the right one will be all over the air if the one is near and you will feel it and you will be attracted by this smell. No matter how crowd the place is, you definately know that the one is just over there. "Love in First Sight!!" Wow, so incredible.

Where is my "Love in First Sight"?? How come I can't smell it? May be I need to be patient and wait for it for a while.

A Speical Task

Joem, my colleague told us that the necklace that her husband bought her had been torn into pieces. The necklace was a piece of jewelry from Nepal. Peggy and I tried to fixed it for her. The necklace was in two layers and was made of stones in green, white & red/organe and metal beads.

Some of the metal pieces were found rust. Thus, we don't have enough materials to re-do it. I asked Joem to let me bring it home and try my best to make a new one for her.

Finally, I completed this task and made two necklaces for her, one in white and green and the other one is the red/orange one. Today, she wore the red/orange one.

A new life in 2009

Today is the first working day after the long holiday for the new year. Needness to say, I have to make up my plan for this year.

Here are what I plan to do in 2009:

1/. Study hard on my English as this is not my mother language;

2/. More exerices since I am too fat;

3/. Complete my mentor programme as soon as possible and advance to CPA;

4/. Work hard at office as 2009 is not a good year for everyone due to the financial crisis;

5/. Try my best to find out my own style of jewelry making;

6/. Go out more and enjoy my life;

7/. If I can, find my mr. right.

Seems I will have a busy year. :P

It is the morning of New Year's Eve in Hong Kong. I wish you all Happy New Year!!

Just an hour early, Kay, my sister who run Lifestylewithlove at ETSY called to share her happiness with me. Her Valentines Coasters set made into the Gift guide of Etsy. Congratulation, Kay!! She is good at sewing and making scatch books. Her works are cute and stylish. When she was teenage, she went to learn drawing and painting. I am sure that she would become an artist. Now, she is but not on the painting section.

For myself, my colleague invite me to join the count-down party tonight. However, I feel bad with my stomach and headache, headache. The pain make me stay at home and have absent from work for two days. What a pity that I can only stay at home. Gals, I wish you all enjoy tonight's party!

KaiPing is one of the place in Guangdong province of Southern China where lots of diaolou can be found. Dialou have been built since the Qing Dynasty and most of them are built in 1920s and 1930s.

In the old times, many Chineses of the Southern China migrated to western countries for living. After they earned adequate money, they came back to the home town. They built their new home in China again with the technique that they had learnt when they lived overseas. Diaolou incorporated architectural features of difference western countries and China. Thus, you can find that the outlook of each diaolou is in different design.

Diaolou is fortified tower with several storeys and are usually built near rivers. At the time, thieves were attracted by the possession of the returned Chineses. Therefore, diaolou is built to protect from thieves and flood. Windows of the towers were usually in small size and made with metal. In each floor of the diaolou, there are four bed rooms, one living room, one kitchen and one washroom. Usually, the family lived in the ground floor. However, when there is flooding, they move up to the next floor or sometimes the upper floor. At the top of the diaolou, there is the room for worship of their ancient and a big balcony. The scenery outside the diaolou is very beautiful. The most famous diaolou are RuiShiLou, Majianglong Diaolou villiage, Fangshi Denglou.

This is an interesting and educational trip that I ever had and I enjoy it very much.

The New Year is coming. My friend, Annabel asked me to make a set of jewelry for her to attend New Year party. It's not a easy task for me because she is the kind of girl that love simple but elegant accessories.

As to fit for her use of the set, I decided to use Swarovski crystal and golden colour as theme of the set. The finished set looked very shiny that I hesitate to let her have this and would love to keep it for myself. But...how can I do like that? I cannot keep every piece of my work as my own collection! Maybe it's time for me to learn about let go.

When I sent her the set, I could feel that she was attracted by the bright colour. I was so happy that she loves my works. It's not the matter of having sale but the satisfaction from finishing a project.

Two-days trip to China - KaiPing (part I)

Last night, I back to Hong Kong from a two-days trip. It's a interesting one and I took many pictures, around 600 photos. The one I shown here is one of my favours.

The place that I visited is located in KaiPing of Guangdong Province, China. This is a city full of diaolou which had been marked as "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO.

Girls' Christmas night

Last night was the "Girls X'mas night". What a wonderful party we had in the little Italian restaurant. Lots of laughs and gossip. LOL, Girl likes gossip.

With the deer headbands and Santa's hats, we all became 10 years old girls. Without consume any alcholic, we all drunk in this happy atomsphere.

I need to apologz to the couple that sit on the table behind us. Our laugh were too loud but I am sure they would forgive us because it's Christmas' time, right?
